Unload trays of plants when the nurseries deliver. Requires ability to lift and carry heavy trays of plants, up to 30 pounds. This is a great way to get familiar with native plant seedlings and understand various details for identifying seedlings. For those of you who are great at identifying native plants already, then come share your skills. We want to make sure we label and organize all our plant friends correctly so the right plants make it to their new homes. 

Tuesday morning will be mostly unloading and carrying plants to their correct locations. 

Tuesday afternoon will be mostly labeling plants.

Our new location is Barn 5 in Hill 'n Dale Preserve located at 11801 Ridge Road in Barrington Hills.

Calling all native plant experts! This role is for you! Requires highest level of attention to detail as well as familiarity with native plants.

You will be completing another accuracy check of pre-sale orders by reviewing order sheets against the plants in each order. 

 Our location is the Plant Sale Barn in the Hill 'n Dale Preserve located at 11801 Ridge Road in Barrington Hills.

This volunteer role is for those who enjoy being detail-minded and accurate. We will work in teams of two so bring a family member, friend or colleague! If you are coming on your own, we can pair you with another great volunteer. At least one person needs to be able to lift large trays of plants.

Each team will fill pre-orders by pulling the ordered plants.  These can be forbs, sedges, grasses, ferns, gardens or a combination of these.  It is extremely important that the correct species and quantity are pulled.

Want to help at the plant sale but need a no-lifting and/or no knowledge of plants needed role? Then this is for you! Each little plant needs a label stick and that is where you get to help. We have thousands of plants headed to new homes and we want to make sure the owners know what each plant is when they get home. The new plant owners will greatly appreciate your labeling efforts!

Our location is the Plant Sale Barn in the Hill 'n Dale Preserve located at 11801Ridge Rd. in Barrington Hills.

We need folks who can lift various sizes of tree and shrub pots and use a dolly/hand truck for moving the very heavy pots. 

On Monday, trucks and trailers will arrive and must be unloaded.  Once we have audited the quantities delivered, we will arrange the trees and shrubs by species. This makes it easier to fill pre-orders and for customers to shop during the sale.

On Tuesday we'll fill pre-orders which means moving trees and shrubs onto wagons rather than unloading from trucks. We will also audit the filled orders and arrange them along the side of the barn for easy pickup.  

Friday through Sunday are for heavy lifters who are also great with people.  We will assist customers with picking up their pre-orders as well as purchasing trees and shrubs. In both cases, sometimes we will need to help them get these purchases in their vehicles.  

Our new location will be the CFC Plant Sale Barn at Hill 'n Dale Preserve, 11801 Ridge Road, Barrington Hills. 

Event road signs need to be posted before our plant sale so trucks know where to deliver plants, volunteers know where to go during the week and folks know it is coming up and know where to go. 

After the sale the event road signs need to be picked up.

Two people are needed - one person to drive and the other person to setup the sign. 

Locations where signs are to be posted will be provided. They are along roadsides and on the Hill 'N Dale property. 

Shift times are flexible as long as the signs are posted before April 30 and taken down after the sale ends on May 3.

You'll greet customers who are dreaming of spring as they arrive to shop or pick up their plant orders. Friendly disposition, listening skills and patience needed. 

One reason the CFC Native Plant Sale is so successful is because customers can consult with Master Naturalists/Gardeners – experts who are knowledgeable in selection, planting and care of native plants, trees and shrubs.

If you fit that description, please join us! You will answer questions from customers and provide guidance to help them make the best possible selection for their site conditions. 

When signing up let us know what your area of expertise is in such as trees/shrubs, shade plants, sedges/grasses, garden design.

When folks have finished shopping you will tally up the number of plants they are purchasing, then write it down for the customer to bring to the cashier. No calculator or math skills needed! It's fun to work as a team, so invite a friend to sign up with you. 

We need folks to direct traffic into and out of the driveway leading to the CFC Plant Sale Barn.
