Description

Help steward the financial future of local conservation.

Citizens for Conservation (CFC) is seeking a thoughtful, community-minded volunteer to serve as our Board Treasurer—a key leadership role helping ensure the long-term health and impact of our mission to protect and restore land, water, and wildlife in our region.

This role is ideal for someone who cares deeply about conservation, believes in responsible stewardship, and enjoys working collaboratively with fellow board members and staff to support a mission-driven nonprofit.

What the Treasurer Does

As Treasurer, you’ll serve as a financial steward and trusted partner to the Board and staff. You don’t need to do the day-to-day bookkeeping—our staff and professional partners handle that—but you do help guide oversight, understanding, and decision-making.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Serving as Chair of the Finance & Investment Committee
  • Helping the Board understand CFC’s financial position, budgets, and long-term sustainability
  • Working with the Executive Director to ensure clear, timely financial reports are shared with the Board
  • Presenting the annual budget for Board review and approval
  • Supporting oversight of investments, internal controls, and financial policies
  • Serving on the Executive Committee and contributing to overall board leadership

What We’re Hoping to Find

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Has experience with financial oversight and modeling, GAAP, investment portfolio management and risk assessment, and nonprofit accounting (professional or volunteer)
  • Is comfortable reading and explaining financial reports at a board level
  • Values transparency, collaboration, and thoughtful decision-making
  • Is willing to prepare for and actively participate in board and committee meetings
  • Believes in CFC’s mission and is excited to serve as an ambassador in the community
  • Prior board service is helpful but not required.

Board Service Expectations

CFC board members:

  • Attend regular board meetings and committee meetings
  • Make an annual personal financial contribution at a level that is meaningful to them
  • Support CFC through advocacy, relationship-building, and community presence
  • Help ensure the organization remains strong, ethical, and mission-focused

Why This Role Matters

The Treasurer plays a vital role in helping CFC protect land today and plan responsibly for the future. You’ll be joining a dedicated group of volunteers and staff who care deeply about conservation and about doing this work with integrity and care.

If you—or someone you know—might be a good fit, we’d love to start a conversation.
