Who We Are
The mission of Barrington Area Conservation Trust is to preserve our community’s rare and exceptional open spaces for current and future generations. We are able to achieve our mission through the generous support of individual members, family foundations, grants and business organizations.
What We Do
We strive to fulfill our mission in the greater Barrington Area through the following efforts:
- Preservation, restoration and stewardship of natural areas. Our land preservation and restoration initiatives consist of conservation easements and land acquisition through donations. We have preserved 520 acres of land through conservation easements where the landowner retains ownership. BACT also accept donations of land that have high conservation values or have the potential to be restored back to their ecologically healthy state.
- Community Outreach programs engage homeowners in sustainability by visiting their yard and offering site-specific advice. The goal of these outreach programs is to educate decision-makers about the importance of sustainable practices and inspire them to take an active role in fostering the well-being of our environment for the benefit of both nature and people.
- High School Outreach programs including BHS Conservation@School program, Teens 4Green Youth Group, High School Summer Internships and restoration workdays designed to educate and inspire our next generation of conservation leaders.
