Who We Are
ROYAL FAMILY KIDS GIVES YOUTH IN FOSTER CARE A SECOND CHANCE AT CHILDHOOD.
RFK transforms communities by interrupting cycles of neglect, abuse and abandonment of children in the foster care system. We fulfill our mission by providing a fun 5 day residential summer program, directed toward changing the trajectory of young lives. We enter our 15th camp season, we continue to pursue this mission through our holistic commitment to:
- Transformation: We believe that all lives can be changed, with joy and play leading the way.
- Security: We believe that safety and freedom from harm are essential.
- Love: We treat all people with dignity, generously lavishing them with kindness and compassion.
- Belonging: We facilitate interpersonal and community connectivity.
- Courage: We relentlessly serve for the betterment of society.
What We Do
Royal Family KIDS Camp is where many kids get to be kids for the first time in their young lives. It shows them what family life could be… what it should be. Camp works because children leave their chaotic world and go to a safe place surrounded by safe people. On average we are able to bring 100 campers and 200 volunteers to camp to experience a week of fun and hope.
For the kids, positive memories are born when moments of confidence are built. Camp provides children with the strength, purpose, and sense of self-worth to face a world in which they cannot control their circumstances. At camp, we have a variety of fun activities including an activity center and woodshop with different crafts, daily swimming, tea and cookie parties, everyone’s birthday party, and a fun fair.
Reports from caregivers and child protective agencies alike have noted that RFK programs have improved the child’s self worth. There’s evidence that the children are performing better in school and that a single moment in a child’s life where they feel valued and loved can change the trajectory of their life.
Camper Quote: “THERE IS NO DOUBT CAMP CHANGED MY LIFE. IT GAVE ME HAPPY MEMORIES TO HOLD ONTO WHEN I WENT HOME. I HAD HOPE THAT THINGS WERE GOING TO GET BETTER AND I HAD THE POWER TO MAKE GOOD CHOICES THAT WOULD KEEP ME ON THE RIGHT PATH.”
For the community, camp gives people the opportunity to take action, respond with love, and provide trusted guidance to the children who need it most.
Frederick Douglass Quote: “IT’S EASIER TO BUILD STRONG CHILDREN THAN IT IS TO REPAIR BROKEN MEN.”
