Who We Are

Barrington Giving Day, a 501c3 Non-Profit organization, has been serving the Barrington community for over 80 years providing support to families in need. Most don't realize that CUSD 220 covers a 72 square mile area including 12 different towns and 4 counties: Cook, Kane, Lake and McHenry. That is a very large area that includes over 885 families that are living below the poverty level.

It is the mission of BGD to ease the burden these families are experiencing by providing necessities that most of us take for granted. With the pandemic and inflation, low-income families are being hit the hardest right now. Households whose income is below the poverty level pay a larger proportion of their wages for groceries, gas and essentials for their families. Our mission is to relieve some of that burden by inviting these families to events throughout the year where they can receive much needed items for their children. We currently hold Spring, Back to School and Winter events. For instance, our Winter Event is held in December at Station Middle School where we convert the school into a shopping experience. Families are able to select Coats, Snow Pants, Boots, Hats & Gloves, Books, Bedding, Toys for Christmas and more. Every invited family also receives Walmart gift card for food and other essentials. We also welcome families from other communities to attend our event.

In addition to our events, we partner with the district and schools year-round to provide support to families and students who are experiencing a crisis. They know that they can reach out at any time and we will pull together whatever is needed.

What We Do

Barrington Giving Day provides necessities to children and their families within District 220 (Barrington Illinois Schools) who either qualify as low-income or are experiencing a hardship. These families are sent invitations to attend Giving Day Events throughout the year. We also welcome families outside of the district to attend as Walk-In Guests.

We currently hold 4 events.

Spring Event-Books, Food, Clothing, Shoes, Team Sport Equipment

Prom Event-Gowns, Tuxes, Shoes, Accessories

Back to School Event-Clothing, Athletic Shoes, Backpacks, School Supplies, Personal Care

Winter Event-Coat, Snow Pants, Boots, Hats & Gloves, Toys, Books, Blankets, Baby Supplies

Throughout the year, District 220 knows it can count on BGD to provide support to families and students experiencing homelessness or other dire needs. Working together, we have been able to help these individuals on short notice with necessities to help reduce the burden they are experiencing.
