Giving Dreams Prom Boutique - helping dreams come true for teens in need
Teens in need are invited to "shop" (everything is free) for the prom outfit. We will be offering gowns, suits, tuxes, shoes, jewelry and accessories. We need people who are skilled with making minor alterations to help make on-site alterations.
Very often, a high school student finds the right dress, however the length or straps might need shortening, or perhaps another minor adjustment is required. That is where your help is needed! Each day, we need a team of experienced seamstresses on hand to assess and make alterations on the spot while the student waits. If that is not feasible, the student would be instructed when they can return to the boutique to pick up the finished dress on a later day. The nature of the required alterations can vary from the very simple to the fairly tricky; we can use the help of all levels and talents for the alterations. If you know your way around a sewing machine, YOU CAN HELP! And if you have experience with alterations work, we really could use you! Typically, our seamstress/alterations experts bring their own machines and supplies (thread, hand sewing needles, scissors, etc.). We will have additional supplies on hand as well as steamers, irons and ironing boards.
It will be really rewarding to be able to make a student's prom dreams come true. It’s more than just dresses, suits, and accessories; it is a service to their self-esteem. They'll leave the boutique with a positive outlook and a boost to their confidence.
