We all wish everything could be recycled, but unfortunately, items like plastic bags, string lights, and batteries need special handling. If they get in the recycling stream, they contaminate it and potentially injure recycling staff.
A simple tag placed on a recycling bin helps clean the stream. Placing an "oops" tag on carts that contain wish-recycling items and a "shine on" tag for households doing well will educate our residents and improve recycling efforts.
We are asking for help from volunteers to assist in tagging recycling carts.
- The tagging will occur each Friday during the month of May during the morning hours and will take approximately two hours.
- Volunteers only need to commit to one or two days during the month of May.
- To participate in the cart tagging pilot program, volunteers are required to attend a short training session, Tuesday, April 5, 6 – 7 pm at the Barrington Village Hall.
- All participants must be 18 years of age or older.
