We are excited to once again organize the Oaktoberfest event which will be held on Sunday, October 8th, 2023 from 11am-2pm at Far Field Preserve.
We are looking to increase our engagement with the Barrington community as a whole and hopefully attract more participants and volunteers for this event. This is a great opportunity for people of all ages who are interested in learning more about conservation and how they can be more conscious about their environmental impact.
Additionally, we are hoping to have volunteers help with really anything they are particularly passionate about when it comes to oak savannas, conservation, invasive species management, etc. as well as these areas that we want to cover at the event:
Oak wilt disease education
Acorn sorting
Tree planting
Seed collection
Helping attendees with the potting of acorns to be taken home
Rotational grazing, invasive species management, and oak savanna education
Creative writing and/or article writing related to rotational grazing, invasive species management, and oak savannas
Leading a nature-centered drawing or painting demonstration
Leading a yoga class in the preserve
We are more than happy to certify any volunteer hours accumulated through any of the above activities. We would also love to feature a student article on our website! Included below is a link to a Google Form for volunteer registration.
